 Intourist (VAO Intourist) , the Joint Stock Company for Travel and Investments, established in 1929 , continues to occupy its leading position in Russia' s travel business. As estimated, in 2002 Intourist accounts for over 25 % of incoming tourist flow to Russia.
Despite the turbulent processes resulting from the introducton of a market economy in Russia, Intourist, relying on its long experience in travel business, has succeeded in adapting itself to the changes in Russia's travel market. Intourist has continued welcoming foreign tourists and working in other spheres of travel business in this country and abroad. All this has made Intourist not only the largest but also one of the most highly competent and reliable tour operators among Russian travel companies.
Intourist organize a wide range of tours for foreign travellers around Russia, CIS and Baltic countries. Besides the traditionally popular tours which include Moscow, St. Petersburg and ancient "Golden Ring" towns, every year Intourist presents on the market new tours and programs and also restore the old travel routes once popular among foreign tourists.
Intourist launches three tourist routes along the Transsiberian Railway Road, so popular among visitors to Russia: Great Transsiberian Jouney to the Pacific Ocean, the Great Transsiberian Journey to China via Manchuria and Great Transsiberian Journey to China via Mongolia.
"Intourist" provides services in more than 200 tourist centers in Russia, CIS and Baltic countries and has signed agreements with over 1500 local Russian travel agencies and transport organizations. At the same time Intourist has opened 56 branches and subsidiaries in Russia and this structure of contacts makes it possible for Intourist to affer accommodation as well as provide a variety of tours and services ranging in price from low cost to average and delux.
